evaluation

this assignment has by far been the one yet. i cant explain how much i have enjoyed the entire project.

my images look very different to how i first imagined them to look when i began to think about what i wanted to do. my first idea was to create a time line of fashion with photographs. i did a lot of research into this idea and i found a vintage shop who was willing to let me use clothes for free in exchange for my images. i wanted one of my images to be traditional geisha's and the more i researched and looked into it the more i liked it and eventually decided to take the geisha idea and make it my own. it was a shame that i didn't get to use any of the beautiful vintage clothes but i did make very good friends with the woman who owns the shop and i am assured that i am welcome there any time for if i need any help with future shoots.
i had allot of fun developing the ideas for the modern geisha theme. i made the decision to not do traditional geisha's mainly because i knew i would struggle finding Japanese models and i would also struggle without any transport. after some though i decided that the models i would use would be everyday girls. not glamorous or overconfident, normal but beautiful girls who could show the same shy timidness that is so reflective of the geisha persona.
i did not use real kimonos for my images. the woman in the vintage shop did find me more than enough of them to use but i felt that finding beautiful elegant looking dresses would suit better.
i realise that i did take away allot of the things that one would associate with geisha's but as i have been doing a modern geisha look i am OK with it.
modern geisha has now become:
*western girls (real girls not 'model type' girls)
*colourful dresses that fit in the current fashion
*brightly coloured eye makeup
*unusual hair decoration
*English looking locations

when it came to editing my images i could not settle on the one look so i ended up make a lot of sets. i like all of these sets quite allot and then struggled again to pick the right one. after having a meeting my tutor and i came to an agreement of choosing two sets that we liked the best and picking four images from each (each model has two different pictures). after having my images printed i am now looking forward to handing in my work.
i have really enjoyed the assignment, and i am a little bit sad that i now have to stop thinking about it. over summer i am definitely going to be practicing more unusual fashion shoots and will perhaps get into the habit of talking with professional models to build a list for my third year assignments. i look forward to improve these photographic fashion skills over the next few months.
